| To reduce drugs
and associated crimes from our streets.
SNAP actively promotes Crimestoppers
and a positive drug message to young
people. SNAP stands for 'Say no and
phone'. Since the start of SNAP in Chichester
there has been an 800% increase in drug
related calls to Crimestoppers that
have led to action. We aim to provide
a safe, fun and quality environment. |

SNAP

| SNAP provide drug
free events. |
Every young person
that comes to SNAP events in Chichester
will be asked undergo a voluntary search
by our approved and trained security
company on entry to the event. Entry
will not be permitted without a search.
This is carried out to ensure that the
health and safety of all the young people
at our events remains our top priority.
This is even more important to us now
as our events attract up to 600 young
people travelling in from all over the
district. It also enables us in stopping
young people trying to bring in alcohol,
drugs or potentially dangerous objects
at the events.
Items that are banned from SNAP events
include cigarettes, alcohol, illegal
substances, weapons and chewing gum.
Illegal items are seized and the owners
dealt with in accordance with the law.
Other items, such as cigarettes, chewing
gum etc, are retained by SNAP staff
and returned to the owners at the end
of the event. |
As mentioned earlier
the Security Company that we employ
for SNAP events in Chichester carry
out all of the voluntary entry searches.
These staff are fully trained and have
undertaken relevant training courses/approval
schemes (Westminster approval).
The company works in accordance with
the recommendations of the Private Security
and Industries Act, which regulates
private security companies. More information
about this legislation can be found
by visiting www.psiact.org.uk.
They carry out all the entry searches
and security during the event to ensure
everyone's safety. The security company
try to provide the same staff for all
our events where possible to provide
a sense of continuity for the young
people. |
All of the staff
crew at the events are unpaid volunteers
(except for our security staff and acts).
These people are drawn from the various
agencies involved with the SNAP partnership
in Chichester.
These volunteers are the real hero's
of SNAP and without this group of helpers
the event would not happen. It takes
about 25 volunteers to run the larger
events. The Staff all wear yellow crew
tee-shirts so they can all be recognised
quickly and easily. |
If young people
turn up to our events under the influence
of alcohol or drugs we will not allow
them to enter the event. However in
the interest of health and safety we
will hold them, as they are minors until
they can be collected by a parent or
guardian.
The whole ethos of SNAP events is to
encourage young people to make a positive
choice about the use of drugs and underage
drinking hence we feel the need to deal
with this issue in this manner. Smoking
is also banned at all our events. |
If a young person
turns up under the influence of drugs
or alcohol or causes trouble at the
events we will issue them with a warning.
They are then welcome to come back to
another event but if they return under
the influence of drugs or alcohol or
cause any more trouble we will ban them
permanently from our events.
The SNAP team run this scheme voluntarily
and reserve the right to issue an instant
permanent ban if the situation is deemed
serious enough. |
